Production vs. vibe coding

“I can vibe code that.”

It usually starts the same way.

Someone opens an AI tool, builds a few screens, connects a database, adds a login page and announces, “Done. We have an app.”

Everyone claps. The demo looks great.

Then real people start using it.

More customers. More records. More staff. More permissions. More integrations. More confidential data. More ways for everything to go spectacularly wrong.

Suddenly, Tom cannot find the customer record.

Dick has accidentally edited financial data.

Harry has access to information he absolutely should not be able to see.

And somewhere in the background, the app is held together by copied prompts, mystery code and the universal engineering strategy of: “Don’t touch it. It might break.”

A pretty demo is not a production application.

Vibe coding can be useful for experimenting, prototyping and getting ideas moving quickly.

But production software is a different beast.
